Description
Lake Washington is a large natural lake that borders Seattle on the east, and separates it from cities like Bellevue. This ancient finger lake was carved by glaciers and stretches 22 miles in length, north to south. Three floating bridges span Lake Washington and connect Seattle with the other cities and towns that surround the lake. The Lake Washington Ship Canal links the lake with Puget Sound to the west. Mercer Island is a large city island in the south portion of the lake.
Several city parks in Seattle and other communities were built on the shores of Lake Washington, allowing visitors to enjoy fishing, boating, kayaking, rowing, and other water sports.
