Description
Located on Carlton Ridge, the Kincaid Trail begins on Road 4510 just past the Cowlitz Horse Trail No. 44A trailhead, descends, then begins to climb steeply. The trail reaches the top of the ridge near Log Springs, crosses the summit burn and enters the Wilderness (at mile 3.5). From there it follows the semiopen ridge, offering excellent views of Rainier, then descends to Jug Lake Trail No. 43 east of Kincaid Lake.
In the 1920s and 1930s the trail was used by sheepherders to reach their camps. Kincaid Lake is a 1-acre lake named for Sam Kincaid, a Yakima Valley sheepman who ranged his herds in the area during the early 20th century.
