San Juan Islands - Hiking

Hiking in the San Juan Islands can be a powerfully rewarding experience. There are many great trails across the hundreds of islands in the area. A great place to start is in one of the many state and local parks.

Click here to explore a few of the many Washington state parks located in and around the San Juan Islands.

On the island of San Juan, the meandering trail at American Camp in San Juan Island National Historic Park near Friday Harbor explores secluded beaches where you are likely to spot many different types of Puget Sound wildlife: eagles, seals, and whales. Moran State Park dominates the eastern half of Orcas Island. There, a hike to the top of Mount constitution allows for a commanding view of the San Juan Islands and Puget Sound, as well as Vancouver Island, BC to the northwest, and the Olympic Mountains to the south.

Many of the smaller San Juan islands are entire state parks in and of themselves, and great hiking can be found along their beaches and forests.
