Mount Trumbull Trail climbs an abrupt 1,000 feet to the southern rim of this basalt-capped mountain in 1.5 miles. Although the summit is only one mile from this virgin ponderosa rim area, no trail exists to the top. Route finding skills and/or a compass are essential for those not accustomed to off-trail travel in forested areas. The summit is reached on the northern edge of the basalt flow.
