Description

This trail receives yearly maintenance and is in good condition tothe Park boundary. Campsites are availablealong the trail corridor. A flat area near Snow-field Creek also makes an excellent campsite.

Stock unloading ramp andparking for up to 8 vehicles is available. There isno toilet or potable water at the trailhead.

This trail wanders through oldgrowth forest and crosses the South ForkSkokomish River and other streams several timesbefore reaching an old avalanche chute atapproximately 1.8 miles. The trail then begins toclimb up the canyon above the Skokomish RiverValley. The trail becomes a way-trail at the Parkboundary.

The trail is in a primitive condition afterthe Park Boundary and does not receive any trailmaintenance. Backcountry skills and equipmentsuch as map, compass, and altimeter are highlyrecommended for traveling beyond the NationalPark boundary. Also Park Pemit is necessary.

Day hiking, camping,stock packing, wildlife viewing and birdwatching.

Basic Directions

Located 22 mi, northwest of Sheltonin the Skokomish River Recreation Area. TravelUS Highway 101 to the Skokomish Valley road6 mi. north of Shelton, 7 mi. south of Hoodsport.Turn west on the Valley road and drive about 5mi. to the junction with FS Road #23. Turn rightand proceed for 15 miles on FS Road #23 to thejunction with FS Road #2361. Turn right on FSRoad #2361 (wildlife gate closed Oct. 1 throughApril 30) and proceed for 4 miles to the end ofthe road and the trailhead.
