The beautiful Tieton River is most commonly commercially run during the month of September. Offering steep and exciting intermediate whitewater during a time of year when most rivers are already spent for the season, the Tieton is fed by releases from Rimrock Dam, allowing for an atypical boating season and warmer waters in comparison to other Washington Rivers.
The Tieton River flows past banks lined with a mix of Ponderosa Pine and Scrub Oak forest giving way to Sage covered hillsides, the canyon offering good western fall foliage viewing from river level. Nearly continuous intermediate whitewater dominates the river channel, with steep drops and plenty of exciting obstacles to navigate around.
The Tieton River can be accessed easily from Yakima and surrounding towns and is offered as a day long commercial trip as conditions permit.
