Port Defiance Park, perched at Tacoma's northern tip, is a popular place to while away the day, home to a top-rate zoo, an aquarium, numerous gardens and several miles of paved paths. Fort Nisqually, also in the park, hosts living history exhibits staged inside the replica of an city fortification - for further historical background on the state, leave time for a stop at the Washington State Museum of History. In addition to natural and historic attractions, Tacoma is also a center for glass art, superb examples of which can be viewed on exhibit at the Museum of Glass and around the numerous galleries in town; there's also a fine art museum nearby (Tacoma Art Museum) and an assortment of cultural activities on offer for those looking for ways to fill weekends and evenings in this major Washington hub.
