Description
5.5 miles in lengthfrom upper Mt. Townsend Trailhead. Grade is20% to Silver Lakes Trail for 3 miles and 8% thelast 2.5 miles.
Small parking area at bothtrailheads. There is very limited turn aroundspace at the upper trailhead for vehicles withhorse trailers. There is a three sided shelter atSink Lake. No toilets.
Conifer forest, wildflowers, lakemeadows, alpine lake, and rugged mountains.
Hiking, horseback riding,backpacking, viewing wildflowers, scenery andfishing. The trail is heavily wooded the first 2miles and then it opens up with views of mountainsand lakes. Treat all drinking water. Pack out whatyou pack in. Practice LEAVE NO TRACEtechniques during your trip.
Motor vehicles and mountain bikesare prohibited. No open campfires allowed above 3,500 feet inside Buckhorn Wilderness.

Silver Lakes Trail #842 is approachedvia the Mt. Townsend Trail 15 miles northwestof Quilcene. The trail begins off Mt. TownsendTrail at 4.0 or 3.0 miles depending on whichtrailhead you start from. One mile south ofQuilcene, turn right onto Penny Creek Road. Go1.4 mile staying left at the “Y”, continue onto theFS boundary and paved FS Road #27. Proceedon FS Road #27 for 10.6 miles to FS Road#2760. For access to the upper trailhead stay onRoad #27 one more mile and turn left onto theFS Road #190. Follow FS Road #190 one mileto the upper trailhead at the end of the road.
