Description

This trail is very steep and difficult in places. There are a few campsites scattered along the trail. Once Lake of the Angels is reached, one can find numerous way-trails and paths leading in many different directions. One scramble trail takes the hiker onto the East slope of Mt. Skokomish; a second climbs the northwest end of the canyon to higher alpine areas. Overnighters traveling into the Olympic National Park will need to fill out a wilderness permit (located along trail at 1.3 miles).

There is no toilet or potable water at the trailheads. The second trailhead is at the jct. of the closed Boulder Creek Road. Alternate trail follows road bed for 1.3 miles. Toilets are available at Lena Lake Trailhead located 4 miles before Putvin Trailhead. Note: Pass or Passport is needed at both trailheads.

A wide variety of hiking experiences can be encountered from deep forest trails to exposed rock outcroppings, to include alpine meadows, lake and mountain views.

Hiking, camping, climbing, and viewing wildlife and scenery.

Motorized vehicles, mountain bikes and stock are prohibited. NOTE: Fires above 3,500 feet elevation and groups consisting of more than 12 people are prohibited within Mt. Skokomish Wilderness. Firearms, pets and campfires (above 3,500 ft.) are prohibited in the National Park.
