Leadville, Colorado Travel Guide

Complete Vacation, Recreation and Tourism Information

Leadville, at over 10,000 feet in elevation, is North America's highest incorporated city. This historic community of a few thousand people is steeped in the history of Colorado mining. The streets are filled with well-maintained buildings from the 1800s, and several mining and pioneer museums offer a look back into the industrious workers and famous names who passed through Leadville.

Nearly a dozen peaks over 14,000 feet high, including Colorado's tallest, Mt. Elbert, are within a few miles of Leadville. Recreation opportunities are plentiful in the crisp mountain surroundings. A wide range of dining and lodging options make Leadville a satisfactory base of operations for outdoor activity in the area.

Leadville is near the center of Colorado along US 24 between Vail and Salida, 100 miles from Denver or 175 miles from Grand Junction.
