If you're looking to escape the city for a more natural retreat think about hopping the ferry over to Bainbridge Island for a visit to Bloedel Reserve. Well off the beaten path, this peaceful stretch of gardens and woodlands are open to those with reservations only, but the plus side is that you'll have the bird refuge and trails just about as much to yourself as it gets in this day and age.
