The Wild and Scenic Skykomish is perhaps the most popular of the three sections run by commercial outfitters. Located 50 miles Northeast of Seattle, the Skykomish drains the western slope of the mighty Cascade Mountains, and winds past banks dotted with mixed pine forest. Cold, emerald green waters accelerate through sections choked with granite boulders, creating challenging, pool-drop, advanced level rapids.
Excellent views of Mt. Index and Mt. Persis can be taken in from river level and wildlife sightings are common. Day long commercial trips are offered during the main summer months on the Skykomish and overnight trips in combination with the North Fork Skykomish are also available. Due to its challenging nature, participants must be above a certain age and in good physical condition.
