Mountain Loop Scenic Byway

The Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest is the ultimate one-stop recreation destination, and its close proximity to Seattle makes it the perfect weekend trip. Even if you only have a day to explore the forest and state parks, you could easily limit your journey to Mountain Loop Scenic Byway and see and do the best of everything.

Contrasting terrain between rugged mountains to the lush forests unfolds around every turn on the byway, enticing bikers and hikers to explore its rugged mystery. Encompassed by three wilderness areas, you're just seconds away from hundreds of miles of trails adequate for testing your tread. Just a four-mile bike ride or walk takes you to the historic ghost town of Monte Cristo. The history of early mining is captured here in abandoned mining structures, hotels, and garages.

Startle your senses from vast vantage points showcasing the green, rocky terrain and bubbling mountain rivers of western Washington. Interpretive signage along the route explains the ecology of the region, while you just step back and admire the views.
