Description
Beginning near Olallie Lake off Road 5601, this trail goes through a conifer forest, passes by Chain of Lakes (1.5 miles from Road 5601), then enters an open forest with views of Adams. (A large trailhead is located in the Chain of Lakes Campground.)
From Chain of Lakes the trail drops steeply to a large lava flow and Adams Fork Creek. It then climbs through an open forest to Horseshoe Lake, with views of Mt. Adams, before the junction with Spring Creek Trail No. 115. The trail continues to the junction of Keenes Trail No. 120 near Spring Creek, then continues north, crosses Road 5603 and ends on Road 2329.117. The section of trail east of Horseshoe Lake Campground is closed to motorcycles.
Wildflowers, huckleberries, volcanic features, high elevation lakes and spectacular views dominate this historic trail which was once used by Yakama Indians picking berries in the high lakes area.
The trail crosses a creek with no bridge. A trail bridge now crosses the deep Mt Adams creek. The section from Horseshoe Lake east is closed to motorcycles.
